XRD pattern of powder sample from fragment 185-5 (refined lattice constant for potassium alum, a = 12.16561(3), space group Pa-3) and patterns taken 2 months and 2 years after mild heating, showing conversion of alum to an amorphous phase (98% increase in amorphous contribution), which remains after 2 months. After 2 years crystalline alum peaks have reformed, accompanied by peaks from dehydrated form KAl(SO4)2·6H2O (marked with inverted triangles)
