Moisture-related swelling (data for directions of larger responses only) of all parchment specimens presented as plots calculated from the least-square regression of the experimental data to the second-order polynomial. Maximum moisture-related swelling of collagen fibres in the lateral direction, determined by X-ray diffraction of animal tendons, are provided. The historic parchments dated to the eighteenth—early twentieth centuries (see Table 1)
